Did you know that pure maple syrup is all-natural, and full of healthy minerals? Or that it takes roughly 40 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of syrup? Did you know that all it takes to process maple syrup is simply evaporating the water content out?

If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to make your own maple syrup at home, or just want to learn more about this delicious treat, join us for this free class! Terry Timmons, of Sterlinglen Farm, will show guests all they need to know to take on the task of making their own syrup. Attendees will learn the importance of selecting sugar maples, and how to identify them, as well as all the basic equipment you’ll need to get started. We’ll then review how to tap your trees and collect the sap, and then it’s on to boiling, finishing, and filtering! No sugar shacks or fancy equipment necessary, you’ll learn how to make do with what you already have at home.

Following the class, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, review equipment, sample maple syrup and candies, and get more information on where to purchase equipment or supplies.

Timmons, a Geauga County native, is a fourth-generation maple producer and runs over 600 taps on his farm outside of Loudonville. His syrup has won the Grand Award at the Ohio State Fair and multiple First Place prizes at the Geauga County Maple Festival. Timmon’s parents and grandparents have all been inducted into the Geauga County Maple Syrup Hall of Fame.
